I was pleased to meet Victoria Atkins MP, Minister of State for Prisons, amongst other Welsh MPs this week to discuss the MOJ's new pilot programme for female offenders who commit low-level crimes - 'Women's Residential Centre'.
The Women's Residential Centre will aim to tackle the underlying causes of offending, such as substance misuse and mental health problems, and support women through the transition to life back in the community.
Back in February, I asked the MOJ for an update on this and I welcome that the first residential women's centre will be sited in Swansea and I will continue to support the inclusion of a mother and baby unit.
This is a great result for Wales and is strongly supported by cross-party female Welsh MPs.
