This week, the Defence Select Committee held an oral evidence session as part of our inquiry into the withdrawal from Afghanistan. During the session, we heard from from General (ret.) David Petraeus, the former Commander of US and NATO forces in Afghanistan, and representatives from Combat Stress and Help for Heroes.
As part of the session, I asked Jeff Harrison, CEO of Combat Stress, about the available funding from devolved administrations, such as the Welsh Government.
I was sad and sorry to hear about the lack of support Combat Stress receive from the Welsh Government, adding to concerns I already have about the disparity in veterans services in Wales compared to England. It is vitally important that veterans services in Wales match those across the border, and I will continue to campaign on this to ensure that veterans in Wales are not let down.
