Whilst 2023 had its challenges, Wrexham also enjoyed a number of successes. Here's what I have delivered for Wrexham in this past year...
- Delivered a new Investment Zone for Wrexham with the potential for up to £160 million of tax incentives and funding.
- Secured £20 million from the UK Government's Town Fund.
- Facilitated grants for local organisations from the £24 million provided by the UK Government's Shared Prosperity Fund.
- Worked with UK Government ministers to provide a new Civil Service Hub in Wrexham, bringing over 300 new jobs to our city.
- Since I was elected, my office's 'Grant Finder' service has assisted in providing £361,917 of funding for charities in Wrexham. In 2023, I was extremely pleased that this service helped numerous local organisations, including providing £48,145 for the Friends of Gresford Lake!
- Fought to maintain Wrexham's fire service provision, including creating a petition that received an overwhelming response, taking a collective stand at Queen's Square and making extensive appeals to the Chief Fire Officer.
- Opposed the Welsh Government's introduction of new 20mph speed limits, fronting a rally in Gwersyllt and advocating against this anti-car and anti-driver policy.
- Supported bringing a Maggie's Cancer Centre to North Wales. Having campaigned on this issue for over two years, it was excellent to hear that their planning application at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd had been approved in November!
- I continued my campaign calling on the Welsh Government to improve health services in Wrexham and raised the significant number of concerns that I have received from constituents with Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board.
- Welcomed the Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, as well as a number of government ministers to Wrexham, showcasing our city's talent and skills.
Next year, I look forward to building on the progress made in 2023, ensuring that Wrexham is firmly put on the map and lobbying the Welsh Government to prioritise bringing our health and transport services up to standard. Having worked with my brilliant casework team on over 17,000 pieces of casework since being elected, I will continue to voice your concerns and focus on the issues that matter to Wrexham.
