You may have heard a lot recently about the Welsh Labour Government’s damaging phosphates policy which has inadvertently brought housing and planning developments in Wrexham to a standstill. In case you haven’t, I thought it would be useful to explain how it is negatively affecting us all at such a pivotal time for our city.
The Welsh Labour Government’s phosphates policy sets new targets for the levels of acceptable phosphate pollution in Welsh rivers. This has had the unintended consequence of causing a large backlog of planning applications in Wrexham. Whilst this is a devolved issue, I am taking immediate action to find a solution. I am writing to Natural Resources Wales to ensure that a permit, which will allow progress to be made, is granted to Wrexham as soon as possible. We need to be more innovative and tackle this issue now if we want to unblock the 3,500 planning developments currently stuck in the planning process. Once I receive a response from Natural Resources Wales, I will update residents via my website and social media.
