Volunteers’ Week is a nation-wide event that provides a chance to say thank you to the millions of people across the UK that make a positive contribution to their community. To celebrate, I have been showcasing several groups and individuals from across Wrexham that have given back to their community across the past year.
It goes without saying that these four individuals and groups represent only a small amount of the excellent voluntary work that goes on across Wrexham - so I also want to take this moment to thank everyone across our community that has given back and helped others throughout the past year!
Maelor Voluntary Service
Over this past year, despite being closed due to the Covid restrictions, the volunteers at the Maelor Voluntary Service have continued working hard by running raffles, writing to businesses for support and raising money for the charity.
The hard work of the volunteers has not gone unnoticed and will stand this excellent community asset in great stead for the charity's future! Well done to you all!
Rossett Covid Volunteer Group
When the pandemic hit, Ali Pickard and the Covid Volunteer Group in Rossett quickly identified people that were struggling, were required to shield or did not have access to the necessary resources because of the restrictions.
Throughout the pandemic, the volunteers have offered regular support and assistance to all those that needed it; they have delivered newsletters, organised shopping and dog walking, and even set up pen-pal schemes!
All of this has made a real difference to the community!
Home-Start Wrexham
Throughout the pandemic, the volunteers have adapted and continued their excellent work supporting families, putting their own needs aside in these unprecedented times!
The volunteers have held virtual sessions, delivered necessities to the doorsteps and organised outdoor walks to assist the families they are engaged with
Lynne Humphreys, Chair of the Gresford Women's Institute (WI)
Lynne, who works voluntarily as the Chair of the Gresford WI, has ensured that all WI members feel safe and supported throughout the pandemic. This has been so important given that monthly meetings have not been possible and has kept the community spirit of the WI going!
