Since Investment Zones were introduced by UK Government last year, I have been championing Wrexham as a perfect location to reap the benefits of this scheme, which could bring £80 million worth investment and of tax incentives to our local economy and city centre.
I have met the Chancellor, Secretary of State for Levelling up and Secretary of State for Wales on numerous occasions to make the case for Wrexham and Flintshire’s bid to be successful.
The UK Government is keen to invest in North East Wales and has not ruled out the possibly of two Investment Zones for Wales. As a devolved nation, any Investment Zone relies on the co-operation of the Welsh Government.
Earlier this week, I wrote to the Welsh Government’s Minister for Economy to ask for his support for Wrexham and Flintshire’s bid and for a second Investment Zone in Wales. You can see my full letter below.
This is a fantastic opportunity for Wrexham and I hope the Welsh Government will work with me, UZ Government and stakeholders from public and private sectors to support this bid.
