Residents may be aware that Wrexham Council recently ran a consultation on the Mold Road/ Regent Street Active Travel Plan. The large changes put forward by the Council are a new two-way cycle track and a section of one-way street on Regent Street. I have encouraged all residents to ensure their voices are heard and respond to the consultation. Many residents have contacted me expressing their opinion that these changes are not at this moment in time necessary particularly given the cost of such a problem when the Council are under significant financial scrutiny.
I wrote to the Leader of Wrexham Council, who is also the Disability Champion to share my own thoughts. When I was first elected, I encouraged Wrexham Council to appoint a Disability Champion and whilst I am incredibly pleased that this role has been established, more work needs to be done to ensure Wrexham and our city centre are accessible for all. As such, in my letter to the Council, I requested that they adopt their own Disability Strategy to ensure that infrastructure, such as the changes on Mold Road and Regent Street, allow everyone in Wrexham, regardless of ability, to take advantage of what our amazing city has to offer. When I get a response, I will update residents via my website and social media.
