Wrexham's MP has pledged to help Wrexham AFC get the funding they need to survive the winter months.
The club announced that they had not been eligible to receive the UK Government's National League Funding.
However, as sports is devolved in Wales, Wrexham AFC are eligible to apply for the Welsh Government's 'Spectator Sports Survival Fund', a £17.7m funding package. The fund is aimed at ensuring the short-to-medium term survival of sports organisations and clubs who have been financially impacted by the restrictions on spectators at sporting events.
Sarah Atherton has pledged to support Wrexham AFC get access to vital funding to ensure they make it through the winter:
"Having been in contact with Ministers in both the Welsh and UK Government to see what support will be made available to support Wrexham AFC this winter, I can confirm that there is a separate £17.7 million fund available from the Welsh Government.
"Crucially, this funding stream is in the form of grants, rather than loans. Wrexham AFC is at the heart of our community and I will continue to work with the football club in ensuring they get access to as much of this funding as possible."
