In Wales, health is devolved so it is the responsibility of the Welsh Labour Government to manage the NHS in Wales. As such, Ministers in Cardiff are responsible for the life-endangering state of the Welsh NHS.
Despite receiving the largest ever devolution funding settlement from UK Government, it is concerning that the Welsh Government continue to underfund the NHS in Wales and, in turn, is failing to address the huge challenges facing the NHS. Instead, the Welsh Government is wasting £100m of taxpayers’ money on sending more politicians to Cardiff Bay and £32m on unnecessary blanket 20mph speed limits in Wales.
The message I am hearing is clear. The people of Wrexham simply have no confidence in the management of the NHS at the hands of the Welsh Labour Government. Not only should constituents have timely access to high quality healthcare, but our dedicated and resilient NHS staff deserve support rather than the extreme pressure they are placed under.
As part of my ongoing campaign to improve healthcare in Wrexham, I will continue to lobby the Welsh Labour Government to make drastic improvements across the board to the NHS in Wales. Having managed to secure a meeting with the Interim Executive Director of BCUHB next week, I will be asking what improvements have been made since it was announced that, under the Welsh Government’s watch, the Health Board had been placed in special measures again. I will also be raising issues that constituents are contacting me about including NHS dental provision, difficulty accessing GPs and lengthy treatment waiting times. I will keep constituents informed of the outcome of my meeting.
