It was very exciting to visit Wrexham-based Olympus Gymnastics, based on Llay Indutrial Estate, following support I had given the team throughout the pandemic. Olympus Gymnastics has been affected by Covid-19 as much as anybody, but this has not dampened their determination to grow!
The club, which was founded in 2012 and during the pandemic the owners have put in place a number of adaptations, such as reconfigured floor space, to ensure as many people as possible could use the facilities. Nevertheless, the gym's popularity has meant that it is quickly outgrowing its current premises.
Olympus Gymnastics aims to introduce children, young people and adults to gymnastics as an enjoyable activity, and help people to learn develop their physical literacy, self-confidence, self-discipline and social skills. This makes the gym a brilliant facility, with people coming from all over Wales and the North of England to train, producing talent that compete at international level.
Recently, one of their gymnasts, Jacob Edwards, a triple British Champion, was placed on the Long List for selection for the Commonwealth Games in 2022 and it was really great to show my support for him too!
Commenting on the visit, Head Coach and Director Julie Edwards said,
“It was an absolute pleasure to have met Sarah and be able to show her how passionate we are about the sport and our members. During Sarah's visit we were able to share with her our story which included how we started, how the pandemic has affected us and also shared with her our hopes and aspirations. Sarah's main visit to us was to meet our senior gymnast Jacob Edwards, who has been selected for the long list as a hopeful to make the Welsh team for the Commonwealth Games next year. Jacob was able to show Sarah some of his skills and it was great to see Sarah get herself involved and have a bounce as well.”
