Today, Tuesday 30th March, I visited WeMindTheGap to meet Rachel Clacher and the rest of the team to hear about the truly transformational work taking place there! WeMindTheGap is a Wrexham based charity that provides training, paid employment opportunities, and coaching and mentorship experiences to young people to help them gain new skills and experiences.
It was also really exciting to hear about the Kickstart Scheme placements at WeMindTheGap - these placements represents a great opportunity for young people in Wrexham to work with an excellent team and to develop their skillset.
I am very aware of how difficult the past year has been for many people, with the youngest members of society being particularly badly affected. However, I am pleased that the UK Government's Kickstart Scheme will ameliorate some of these negative impacts by providing tailored work and training opportunities for young people.
The Kickstart Scheme, which launched last year, provides funding to employers to create six-month job placements for 16 to 24-year olds on Universal Credit. The aim of the scheme is to help young people across the country find employment and increase their skills as the country exits the pandemic. The Scheme is backed by £2 billion from the UK Government and it is expected that hundreds of thousands of fully funded jobs opportunities will be created as a result of the scheme.
