I recently visited RAF Linton on Ouse. Linton has been an RAF airfield since before WW2 and has been training RAF and Royal Navy fast jet pilots since the 1950's. It is due to close shortly and I went to see the last course of Naval Fast Jet pilots to be hosted by Linton. These pilots will be the last course to fly the Tucano trainer which has been in service since the 1980s. These young men and women will go on to fly the F35 Lightning, the Navy's latest fighter, on our 2 new carriers. The RAF is locating all fast jet training to Wales at RAF Valley on Anglesey when Linton closes next year. Many Jobs are being transferred to Anglesey, but of course it is always sad to see a historical military facility close.
