The Welsh Government has announced that all schools in Wales will be closed by Friday 20th March.
Education Minister, Kirsty William's said:
"Children will be off for four weeks but I have to be clear with parents, I am not anticipating we will be able to get schools back to normal at the end of the Easter break [or] for a considerable period of time."
Schools from Monday will take on a new role, providing places for the children of 'key workers' (e.g. health and caseworkers, emergency service officers, supermarket delivery drivers, prison officers) so that they can keep doing their jobs. For a full list of key workers, click here. Schools will also be providing places for children registered as vulnerable.
I have written to the Welsh Education Minister to see what measures the Welsh Government have put in place to minimise the disruption on children and parents due to school closures.
I am pleased to see that the Welsh Government has since introduced a number of measures to minimise the effect of school closures on parents and children, view the letter here.
