Wrexham Council's lead member for education, Cllr Phil Wynn and an engineering lecturer at Wolverhampton University, Dr Graham Sparey-Taylor, have transformed Ysgol Clywedog in Wrexham into a hub to increase the production of face visors for our frontline NHS and care setting staff. The programme utilises existing 3D printing technology.
The production of the visors has been approved by BCUHB, and a number of the visors produced are already being used in the Maelor Hospital, as well as various other health and social care settings across Wrexham.
There is a dedicated team of cleaners, joiners, project managers and engineers onsite 24/7 overseeing the project.
Wrexham’s MP and former nurse, Sarah Atherton, recently spent the day at the hub making visors.
Sarah Atherton said:
It is true that in times of crisis we often see people at their best, and Wrexham residents are no exception. I am truly humbled by the dedication of these volunteers who are working 24/7 to ensure our hardworking NHS, care staff on the frontline have access to face visors.
In the midst of this crisis we have seen our community come together to help the vulnerable, those encountering difficulties and our carers who are working hard to care for us.
Many local businesses and residents have already kindly donated and sponsored machines, but fundraising efforts are still ongoing to increase the capacity of face visors produced.
The programme is seeking donations to purchase raw materials, additional 3D printers and to invest in an injection moulding machine to ramp up production.
An individual donation of £10 will purchase enough equipment to produce 20 face visors, helping keep our NHS staff safe.
