Progress is being made on making sure the women in our Armed Forces have appropriate kit with the announcement that the Army would be supplying new body armour from April 2022.
The armour, known as the Virtus Scalable Tactical Vest (STV), has been adapted following extensive trials with serving female soldiers ensuring personnel have more tailored protective equipment.
This follows my 'Women in the Armed Forces' inquiry, held as part of my role on the Defence Select Committee. During the evidence sessions, we heard striking evidence that suggested women were being sent into combat zones with ill-fitting kit. As such, my inquiry recommended that the Ministry of Defence should redesign the kit given to women.
The recent news shows that the Ministry of Defence have listened to and are investing, with the results so far looking hopeful.
