It was a pleasure to be asked to provided the opening remarks at the Welsh Conservatives' manifesto launch at JCB Transmissions in Wrexham.
You can read my speech below:
Good morning everyone, I am Sarah Atherton and I am delighted to welcome everyone here today to JCB Transmissions here in sunny Wrexham.
JCB has been a cornerstone for Wrexham for more than 40 years and it is fantastic news that their commitment to this area is getting even bigger, with new staff and agency workers being offered permanent contracts.
Thank you to JCB for having us here today and for showcasing the skills and talent of their fantastic work force, as we, the Welsh Conservatives, launch our ambitious and aspirational manifesto for the Senedd elections.
Now in 2019, people voted for a positive vision and it was that vision that enabled me to be the first Conservative Member of Parliament for Wrexham. This was as people chose Boris Johnson to Get Brexit Done.
They were not alone. Over half a million people in Wales were with us that day, and Boris delivered on that promise and got Brexit done. Now we have the chance to deliver that change once again; to end 22 years of North Wales being ignored by Labour in Cardiff Bay, to rebuild from the devastating impacts of this pandemic and to restore hope, aspiration and opportunity to our country.
It is only with the Welsh Conservatives and our clear plan for recovery and change that we can put a stop to Labour’s rule. Together we can build a better Wales.
How will we do this? We need both governments in Wales and Westminster to be working together to deliver for Wales, not playing silly constitutional games with our lives and our livelihoods.
I’m delighted to welcome my friend, my colleague and boss - the Secretary of State for Wales, Simon Hart - to Wrexham to show the UK Government’s commitment to our Wales and to our future.
