The Conservative Parliamentary Candidate from Wrexham has welcomed a £1.24bn boost for young people in Wales.
Sarah Atherton is now calling on the Welsh Government to ensure the money is spent where it is much needed – in our primary and secondary schools.
The funding was revealed following an announcement from the UK Conservative Government that education funding in England will be increased by £14bn over three years.
Sarah said: “'After decades of underfunding by the Welsh Labour Government, it is now time for them to properly fund our children's education, schools and support our teachers. With the announcement of this extra funding, the Welsh Labour Government has nowhere to hide and must spend this money on ensuring our young people receive the best possible start in life.”
Meanwhile, Paul Davies, leader of the Welsh Conservatives in the Assembly, said: “The Welsh Conservatives are committed to ensuring that every young person in Wales has the opportunity of a decent education, to give them the best start in life, so that they can achieve their full potential.
“I would urge the Welsh Labour Government – and their Lib Dem Education Minister – to make sure that the funding goes directly to primary and secondary schools and is not top-sliced as it currently is.”
