This week, the Defence Select Committee visited Rosyth and Govan dockyards to view progress on the Royal Navy's Type 31 & Type 26 programmes. This followed the conclusion of the Committee's recent inquiry into the Navy's current and future purpose and capabilities.
Babcock Marine and BAE Systems employ thousands across their shipyards, generating local employment and prosperity and the new shipbuilding academy on the Clyde will help usher in a new era of learning, securing British shipbuilding in the process. It was also useful to see and hear more about the development of the Type 31 and Type 26 programmes, both of which will modernise our Royal Navy, making it fit for current requirements.
I also wrote about the visit in my 'My View', which you can read here.
