Loving Our High Street

I completely understand the concerns of residents and businesses about Wrexham’s town centre and that’s why I’m campaigning for more investment in our town, a reduction in homelessness and changes to parking. I’m continuing my support for local businesses - we have so many in Wrexham, and they all make Wrexham the special place that it is.

I also held a public consultation to find out what you want from the High Street in Wrexham, following calls from businesses to pedestrianise the street. I collated responses and informed the Council, who I understand are looking into all the options.

I have also been campaigning in Wrexham and Westminster to make sure Wrexham receives its fair share of funding from the Government’s Levelling Up Fund. I am disappointed that Wrexham did not receive funding for the bid in the first round, but I am continuing to work with the Council, the Football Club and with the UK Government to make sure the second round bid is as strong as possible.

I am pleased that the UK Government awarded Wrexham Council over £200k from the 'Community Renewal Fund', £122,000 of which will go to a town centre 'Vibrancy Fund'. This will help businesses that are looking to open premises in the town centre to find an appropriate site, which will help reduce the number of empty premises across town.

Parking is an issue for many in Wrexham, which is having knock-on detrimental effects on businesses and tourism across the town.  That’s why I’m asking for your views on the issues relating to parking, so that these can be raised in Parliament and so action can be taken by the Council and Private Parking Authorities.
